GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Posse supports the Sheriff's office whenever needed, providing extra manpower in emergency situations, and assisting in community law enforcement and related activities.
Currently there are 27 members of the Payson Posse who assist the regular sheriff's deputy’s in many areas of law enforcement here in Rim Country.
While we are not certified as law enforcement officers and have no arrest powers beyond a “citizen’s arrest” under certain circumstances, many of us are certified to carry a firearm after receiving training from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.
Our volunteers assist the department in many ways. We do patrol work, crime scene protection and assistance, traffic control, and transport of prisoners just to name a few of the ways we help.
The Posse is looking for volunteers at this time and you are welcome to attend one of the regular meetings to see if this is something you would be interested in. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at the Posse building on McLane street starting at 7:00 p.m. You can also stop at the Sheriff’s Office, located at 108 W. Main Street here in Payson during normal business hours to pick up an application, or download one here:

We are a busy group of dedicated people. In 2010 the Posse put in 3,532.5 hours, and drove 17,367 miles on official business for the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.
